A reminder for the WMO – Weather is not climate

The state of the global climate 2023 report was issued by the World Meteorological Organization recently (WMO). It includes information on greenhouse gases, global temperatures, ocean heat content, sea level, ocean temperatures, ice sheets, glaciers, sea-ice, and precipitation.

What is climate?

According to the WMO, a 30-year period is used to determine the climate in a particular location. WMO climatological normals are 30-year averages.

So climate is defined as the average weather that occurs over a 30-year period. This means that climate change is the difference between the weather in one 30-year period compared to the weather in another 30-year period. For example, the average global climate change over 90 years (1900-29 to 1990-19) was estimated to be about 0.76 deg C, which is insignificant! That’s why the WMO don’t report it!

Deception

The WMO climate 2023 report summary begins, “The publication provides a summary on the state of the climate indicators in 2023”. The indicators used are mainly annual averages, not averages over 30 years. They quoted a 10-year average on pages 4 and 6 of the report. So the report is about weather and NOT climate. And it does not provide a summary on the state of the climate indicators in 2023 – there are NO climate data in the report. And there are no comparisons between the weather in one 30-year period compared to another 30-year period – the report doesn’t address climate change.

On page 23 there is a heading “Extreme weather and climate events”. It made me wonder “what extreme climate events will they describe?”. They begin by referring to “extreme weather”. Then they say, “extreme weather and climate events” including floods, tropical cyclones, heat, drought, and wildfires. But these are weather events, NOT climate events! And they say “extreme weather and climate conditions/events” at least two more times in this section. So, they are using “weather” as being synonymous with “climate”. Obviously the aim is to link “Climate change” with extreme weather events. This is deception of the general public.

It’s like a report on apples that contains no data about apples, only data about oranges – but then it makes a conclusion about apples!

This is not reliable science. It’s more like biased propaganda. If they can’t get the fundamentals right, how much have they “massaged” the data for their narrative?

Propaganda

The report has a section titled “The state of climate finance” which advocates for more climate expenditure. So the report is propaganda for increased climate funding! It sounds like they want more funding to continue the narrative.

Conclusion

As I have mentioned before, the data in this report (and in most others by government and global organizations) are not measurements of climate change at all. They show weather changes, and not climate changes.

This means that the WMO is exploiting the ignorance of the public and raising un-necessary alarm.

If the WMO wants to talk about climate change it should use measurements of the climate. The fact that they don’t do this, makes me think that the evidence for a human influence on global warming is weak. But many people are gullible to this brainwashing through the media.
