Light and darkness in climate science

Introduction

When I was 19, I would lie awake at night trying to calculate how old I would be when the food shortages hit. Where I should live one day to avoid the sea level rise? Where would be safe to live in 20 years time? Whether it was even ethical to bring a child into the world I genuinely believed was going to collapse due to unavoidable catastrophic climate change.
