And I see clickbait for investment frauds, fake prizes, fake jobs, shopping scams, romance scams, ticket scams and inheritance scams. And photos and videos can be generated by AI. False gospels
Recently I attended the funeral of a neighbour. The priest assured us that we will see him in heaven because he had been baptised as a child and he had confessed his mortal sins to the priest at the last rites. Holy water was sprinkled on the coffin as a reminder of his being cleansed of original sin and made a Christian through baptism. This is a different gospel (Gal. 1:6-9) because it contradicts John 14:6 where Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. The true gospel is to trust in the death and resurrection of Jesus for the forgiveness of sin – no one comes to God except through Jesus. Baptism is not a part of salvation – it’s a consequence, not a cause (Acts 10:47-48; 16:14-15; 31-33; 18:8). (more…)

Prophecies about Jesus: His birthplace
Micah wrote about God’s judgment of Judah and their corrupt leaders for their idolatry and disobedience, and the future restoration of a faithful remnant.
Although they were threatened by foreign nations he wrote, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah [near Jerusalem], though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times” (Mic. 5:2NIV). “From ancient times” means from the eternal past. Jesus is the eternal God. Micah is saying that their situation would change when the Messiah comes and leads them like a shepherd (Mic. 5:4). (more…)

In about 700 BC. the Arameans and the kingdom of Israel planned to attack the kingdom of Judah from the north. This was an attack on a descendant of king David and so was an attack on God’s promise that the Messiah would be a ruler who was a descendant of David. The original Christmas gift
Can you remember what you got for Christmas last year? How about 5 years ago? How about 2000 years ago?
The magic and excitement of receiving gifts at Christmas has somewhat diminished for me as I’ve gotten older. Like most Australians I am blessed with having everything I need and a lot of what I want. Throughout the year I am my own expert self-gifter. I can search and click, and have exactly what I want delivered to my front door within days. It kind of takes the shine off receiving a gift from someone else who may not really know what I like. Climate change and the Bible

In late November NSW faced electricity blackout warnings due to elevated temperatures and reduced coal plant generation. Four of the 12 coal-generation units were offline for maintenance or breakdowns. Although it is being phased out slowly, coal remains the primary source of electricity generation in NSW. (more…)

Thanksgiving Day
Next Thursday is Thanksgiving day in the USA when they share a family meal, attend church services, and view special sporting events. This celebration began when settlers who arrived from England in the 17th century dedicated a day to give thanks for the blessings of the harvest and for the preceding year. The first national Thanksgiving celebration was observed in 1789 by President George Washington. In 1863 it was formalized by a presidential proclamation by Abraham Lincoln.
And in 1941 the date was formalized as the fourth Thursday in November. In Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October. (more…)

A dandelion has no way of recognizing that a panther exists. … A panther has no way of recognizing that a superior intelligence exists … who can engineer skyscrapers, or split atoms, or reconstruct the history of Rome…

Our mission is “To excel in the provision of loving Christian care for seniors”. And our values include a “Christian ethos”. Our Strategic plan says: “We are a Christian organisation. We believe that all people are created in the image of God and care for those entrusted to us to the best of our God-given ability. Our caring reflects the attitude of service shown by Jesus Christ. James Webb space telescope observations challenge the Big Bang

New observations of the angular sizes of distant galaxies challenge one of the essential underlying assumptions of the big bang – that the “fabric” of space is expanding as galaxies recede. Without an expanding space, a big bang is impossible. These observations support a new creation-based model of cosmology – the Doppler model – which makes specific quantitative predictions about future observations. (more…)

The novel 1984 (George Orwell, 1949) examines the role of truth and facts within societies and the ways in which they can be manipulated. When Jesus returns
The sound of a father’s footsteps approaching the front door – the same thing can mean different things to different people. For the two year old that sound may be the most exciting noise she’s heard all day. For the teenager who has just crashed the car it may elicit dread. For a child feeling scared and alone it may be the sound of comfort and relief. How we feel and respond to someone’s return depends on our relationship with them. (more…)
